There’s no one who wears tights quite like Camille Charrière. An embodiment of the Swedish Stockings woman – intelligent, irreverent, and with an impeccable sense of style. We knew it had to be Camille when it came to designing this capsule collection. With a shared vision of making tights a timeless, foundational wardrobe staple, this collection draws inspiration from Camille’s own favorite cultural icons and the looks inspired by them.
We talked to Camille about her thoughts around the collab.
How did this collaboration come about?
"There are two questions that flood my DMs day after day," reveals Camille Charrière, London-based writer, broadcaster and digital creator. "The first is: 'When are you writing a book?' (more on that soon) closely followed by, 'Where did you get your tights from?' The question comes so frequently that I started wanting to give a definitive answer; because I agree with my followers, tights are such a staple in the life of a woman. We all need good tights. They are my favourite styling trick to elevate a look or update a silhouette I’ve worn a million times. So, when Swedish Stockings approached me to co-design a collection of sustainably produced tights, it was an offer I could not refuse."
What was your design inspiration for the collection?
"Number one was functionality: you don’t just wear tights to look good, you want them to keep you warm and comfortable throughout the colder months (or in the UK, all year round) without the frustration of having to throw them out after one use. That’s why I really wanted a black tight in my edit because ultimately you want to find your chosen design and stick with it. Once that was done, I could have fun with it. You want the pair you will use by default and then some funky extras for those days you are feeling a little bolder."
How do your values align with those of Swedish Stockings?
"One of my goals is to become aware of my own consumption patterns. I strive to find ways in which the things I buy, use, and inevitably dispose of, have a lesser impact on my surroundings. If I can afford a product with a smaller carbon footprint, I will try to choose that one. Swedish Stockings offers a product that ticks the box in that respect, especially as tights are something that you actually need day-to-day, and will have to buy again as soon as they are damaged."
What 3 words would you use to describe the For The Girls capsule?
"Made for you!"
How does the For The Girls capsule compliment your existing wardrobe and style values?
"Tights are not only functional, they transform the proportions of a silhouette and allow you to play around with shapes and layers very easily. With tights you can wear something shorter and not worry about it, or add your own twist to a simple look, like say your favourite little black dress. I love the idea of tights being part of your signature style. It feels very English. When I think of tights I think of Bridget Jones, Sienna Miller or Jane Birkin. You want that ease, and that playfulness."
Hosiery is the subtle hero of accessorising. What is your favourite way to wear tights to elevate an outfit generally?
"I love wearing tights with flats and a very short skirt. It feels fun and flirty but you never have to worry about flashing (which comes in handy on the dance floor, no pun intended)."
How do you plan on wearing For The Girls this festive period from day to night?
"I guess you’ll just have to follow me to find out :)"
