Journey of a Thread – A Video Series on Sustainable Hosiery Production in Italy

Have you ever wondered what really goes into making a pair of tights? We are proud to present Journey of a Thread – a new craftsmanship video series shedding light on the rare and unfamiliar production process of sustainable hosiery, shot in Northern Italy.

Every year, over eight billion pairs of tights are manufactured, worn once, and discarded, earning hosiery the grim title of “the plastic straw of fashion.” We have been challenging the throwaway culture of tights for over a decade, proving that quality, design, and sustainability can not only coexist but thrive together.

In this video series we take you behind the scenes in our Italian supply chain, showcasing the dedication, precision and care that go into every pair of tights. Set in Castel Goffredo, a region renowned for its textile expertise, the series highlights a sustainable and transparent production process. The factories featured are family owned, geographically close to each other to reduce transportation emissions, and use only certified, high standard materials.

“People often forget how much work and expertise goes into creating something as seemingly simple as a pair of tights," says Linn Frisinger, founder of Swedish Stockings."We want to bring back the glamour and respect hosiery once had. Tights were once considered luxury items, and with our focus on sustainability and quality, we are reintroducing that mindset.”

Narrated by Ileana, one of our Italian suppliers and long-time partners, the message of this series is clear: hosiery is not a disposable item, but a premium product deserving of care, innovation, and attention. Journey of a Thread elevates the invisible craft of sustainability, from meticulous material selection to low-impact hosiery manufacturing processes.

“Tights are my passion and a true love. I’ve dedicated my entire life to creating beautiful, high-quality products that blend elegance with comfort. Every day, I keep learning and growing, always searching for new ways to make my products even better, more refined, and more sustainable. It’s not just what I do, it’s what I deeply believe in.” says Ileana, one of the film’s featured Italian suppliers.

Our production has a proven significantly lower environmental impact compared to industry standards, including a 52% reduction in CO₂ emissions and an 86% supply chain transparency rate, underscoring our commitment to responsible and measurable sustainability. But numbers aside, it’s the people in our supply chain and their dedication that makes this possible. We believe tights should be treated as the premium garment they are with respect to the craft that goes into making them.

We hope to inspire both industry and consumers to rethink hosiery, not as a short-lived accessory, but as a beautifully crafted, high-quality garment made to last.
