Each year, 8 billion pairs of tights are produced, worn once and then discarded, making tights women’s number one wear-and-tear fashion item – a product which can be likened to the plastic straw of the fashion industry.
In 2021, our Recycling Club was relaunched with the production of an exclusive line of tables created alongside Swedish cult-designer Gustaf Westman sold through Swedish Stockings, Gustaf’s own website and Artilleriet, the Gothenburg interior design store.

Aiming to be at the forefront of innovation, Swedish Stockings’ Recycling Club takes another leap towards the arts in 2025, announcing a new collaboration with American visual artist Sienna Martz. The new artist collaboration, which will reimagine tights waste into one-of-a-kind textile art, highlights the company’s core value of thinking differently about sustainability and its wear-and-tear product, expanding outside of its own industry by tapping into the other arts in order to transform the recycled waste into alternative long-life items, until a circular solution for making tights from the nylon waste becomes possible.
"Fashion and art share a rich historical tapestry. They often serve as a means of emotional expression, storytelling, a reflection of cultural identities, and act as a platform for political movements that can ignite radical change. Artists, fashion designers, and consumers possess the ability to drive cultural and systemic transformation while striving to safeguard the beauty and security of our world for generations to come." – Sienna Martz
“We set up the Swedish Stockings Recycling Club back in 2019 so that we could do more to close the loop of nylon waste,” says Linn Frisinger. “Our number one focus has always been sustainability and we produce all our products in Italy to the highest ethical and environmental standards. We design for longevity, and we use a minimum of 87% recycled or certified natural materials in all our products. However, we wanted to go even further and address the end of life. Today this evolves from just taking care of our own products, to all hosiery waste.”
The artworks will be available on swedishstockings.com and siennamartz.com beginning of June.
